THE LOSS OF THE GARRICK.

AN EXCITING EXPERIENCE. [Per Press Association.]

SYDNEY, Dec. 28.

The crew of the Garrick arrived after an exciting experience. Tho disaster was caused by striking floating wreckage on Dec. 16. The vessel then began to leak badly, but the inflow of water was kept in check till the pumps became blocked. The captain refused to abandon the vessel until Dec. 22, when there were over ten feet of water in the hold. Thirteen of the crew got into the lifeboat and three into the gig. A choppy cross sea was running, and the gig foundered at midnight. The crew reached the lifeboat and scrambled aboard, but afterwards the gig was righted. Both boats leaked badly, and were only kept afloat by constant baling. The crew were terribly cramped and short of provisions. Most of the food they had was spoilt by salt water. They reached Eden greatly exhausted, after a perilous and plucky battle with the elements.
