ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION.
The Council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association met at the City Hotel last night; present—Messrs J. P. Grierson (South Canterbury) in the chair, W. Tonks (Auckland), L. Matson (Wanganui), J.'B. Laurenson (Nelson), J. D. Lawrence (West Coast), J. C. Cusack (Canterbury), P. Selig (Hawkes’ Bay) and L. W. Harley (Hon Sec.) It was decided to ask the Wellington Club to recommend a gentleman to take the position of local officer for the Wellington Province. A letter was read from the Gisborne Club, appointing Mr T. Skelton its delegate. A letter was read from the New South Wales Association, asking the New Zealand Association to bo represented at the New South Wales championship meeting on Oct. 5. The Council decided that it could not accede to the request. ' The Council granted fifty-three applications for reinstatement, the majority of the applicants' being members of the newlyformed amateur clubs at New Plymouth and Thames.
The applications from the Taranaki, Manawatu Harriers, Waikato, Waitotara and Thames Clubs for affiliation to the Association were granted. ; The meeting then closed.
