FOOTBALL.
OTAGO v.‘CANTERBURY. The annual match between Otago and Canterbury will be played this afternoon. In the event of Lancaster Park being unfit for play,'arrangements have been made for a change of venue from there to the Christ’s College ground. In either case the place of meeting will bo duly announced early this morning. The following team will represent Can-terbury:—Full-back, G. Marshall; three-quarter-backs, ,T. O’Brien, G. Lorimer and S. Orchard ; half-backs, E. Glennie and W. Price ; forwards, W. King, A. Johnstone, H. Frost, M. Lynskoy, G. Forrest, W. Sanders, J. Patterson, L. W. Appleby and J. Evans. The Otago team will not be finally chosen until this morning. A match will be played at the Kaiapoi Park this afternoon between the Kotahitanga Maoris and a mixed team from the Kaiapoi Football Club. A charge of sixX>ence will bo made for the benefit of the visiting team, and members’ tickets will not be available. QUEENSLAND v. SOUTHLAND. WELLINGTON, August 28. In connection with the postponement of the Queensland v. Southland football match the Secretary of the New Zealand Union explains that the delay of the steamer Wakatipu was the sole cause, and that the Union was unaware that the vessel would not sail on the day arranged by the Company.
