CANTERBURY RUG-BY UNION. The committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union met at the. Clarendon Hotel at 5 p.m. yesterday ; present—Messrs A. E. G. Rhodes (chairman), G. H. Mason, F. T. Evans, J. U. Collins, H. Frost, T. M. Buntin, J. Daniels, F. E. Asquith and W- G. Garrard. A letter was read from the New Zealand Union, asking the Canterbury team to play Taranaki -while in the North Island next month. It was decided not to play Taranaki this year. Messrs Garrard, Asquith and Mason were appointed a sub-committee to arrange for the entertainment of the South Canterbury and Southland representative teams. A letter was read from the Boys' High School team, protesting against the Lyttelton President's Cup team being awarded the match on Saturday, on the ground that a player whose name was not on the President's Cup list had taken part. It was decided to write to the Lyttelton Club on the matter. It was decided to postpone all the President's Cup matches set down for Saturday next owing to the interprovincial match against Soxithla.nd taking place that day. 1$ was decided that the Union's representative team should leave Lyttelton for Wellington on Wednesday next. Mr Asquith was appointed manager of the team for the northern tour. The meeting then closed.

By word received from Timaru, it is very evident that the South Canterbury team to play against Canterbury, on Lancaster Park, next Thursday, is the strongest that has ever represented them, so that those who attend the match tomorrow can rely on a good game being the outcome. All footballers are asked to be present at the station at nine to-night to give the visitors a welcome. A- match will be played this afternoon between teams from Christ’s College and

the Post and Telegraph Department, on the College ground, play to commence at 3.30.
