It has seemed to tbe writer that a brief but systematic consideration of the decided cases, and the principles to’be extracted from them might be of use both to the profession and to the travelling public. Railway accidents repeat themselves with curious similarity, and the injured passenger who reads the following pages will probably find that, whether his damage is due to the •* slamming ” of a carriage door, or to a disastrous collision, there is a precedent covering his particular case, or that It is governed by the principles extracted from the various decisions.
