LYELL, March 23. The Alpine manager’s report for the week.is as follows:—The up-rise- from back of No. 4 level has been driven a further distance of 12ft, making the total distance 26ft, 9ft of which has been risen, on the reef. This is 4ft 6in wide, and bears strong indications of still widening. I have much pleasure in stating that it is carrying very good gold. I noticed another splice making on the foot-wall this morning, from which a little water is percolating, which may be considered as another encouraging feature. At present the reef seems to have • a westerly trend, and an extraordinary pitch in the same direction. Nothing has been done at No. 9 level since Monday night, owing to the flood, and it will be a few days yet before I shall be in a position to resume work at the above levels. We have sustained comparatively no damage at the mine, and will have all necessary repairs completed in a few days. The manager for the Cocksparrow dredge reports for the week as follows : —Owing to the flooded state of the river we have ' done no dredging for the week, but will start dredging again as scop as the road is put in a state of repair to allow the contractor to deliver coal. In the meantime will give all gear a thorough overhaul. WESTPOET, March 28. The coal export for the week ended today was 2856 tons 19cwt, as follows : Westport Coal Company 1750 tons, Cardiff Company 661 tons 14cwt, Knights of Labour 645 tons scwt.
