MINING.
[Pee Pbhss Association.] AUCKLAND. Oct. 24. The Thames Warden to-day sustained the objection of the Kauri Timber Company to an application for a licensed holding on their leasehold at Kuaotunu, holding that it would be impossible to carry on gold mining without interfering with the company’s property, and that there would be danger from fires and risk to the water-races by floating logs. The judgment is of considerable importance as affecting a large area of gold mines recently pegged out. The Waihi return for the twenty-eight days ending Oct. 19 states that 3180 tons wore treated, yielding bullion worth .£11,395. This is the record, beating tbe previous month, which itself was a record, by .£662. One hundred and eighty tons more ore were treated this month than last, but the average value of this month is a shade over one penny par ton more. The Pride of Tokatea. directors have eccepted the offer of a Liverpool syndicate. The North and Harbour View Mining Companies have received a London cable with respect, to amalgamation and the flotation of the mines on the London market. Negotiations are proceeding.
