INDUSTRIAL EXHIBITION.

A meeting of the Executive Committee of the Christchurch Industrial Exhibition was held at the office of the Industrial Association yesterday afternoon; present —Messrs H. £. Kirk (chairman), Curlett, T. N. Horsley, W. W. Charters, J. R. Triggs, Q. E. Hart, R. Allan and Captain M’Olatchie. An apology was received for the absence of Mr S. Hurst Seager, A letter was read from Mr Call is, Wellington, stating that he would be glad to act as honorary secretary for'Wellington for the exhibition, that he purposed starting an industrial exhibition there, and would be glad of any information on the subject. Ho,asked how much space would be available for outside exhibitors. It was decided to appoint Mr Callia honorary agent in Wellington for the exhibition, to forward him all necessary information, and to inform him that the committee was desirous of getting exhibits from outside. A letter was received from Captain Bowron, offering the use of the Richmond Rifles’ long room, and of the storeroom, used as a magazine, on condition that the goods should be stored at the committee’s expense. It was decided to accept the offer with thanks. A letter was read from Captain Linn, requesting permission for the Queen’s Cadets to erect a table from which to sell tickets for their art union at the exhibition. It was decided to grant permission, subject to (he supervision of the Executive Committee. A discussion took place, on the recommendation of the Entertainment Committee, that the exhibition should be open at 3 p.m. Mr G. E. Hart moved, and Captain M’Clatchie seconded—" That the hour of opening be 1 p.m., and that the business people of the city bo requested to close their establishments at noon.” . Mr Triggs moved, and Mr Charters seconded as an amendment—" That the hour of opening’ be 2 ,p.m.” The motion was carried by the .casting vote of the Chairman. The Chairman stated that Captain Donald had promised the use of the £ Battery orderly-room, and Lieutenant Snow that of the Mounted Rifles for the use of the Exhibition Committee. It was decided that the offer should be accepted with thanks. Mr Triggs, chairman of the Space Committee, reported that the space available for exhibits in all the buildings was 6105 square feet, and that the quantity applied for was 5984 feet. The Building Committee had under consideration the advisablenesa of extending the building, so as to provide another 8000 square feet. Mr Triggs gave notice that at next meeting ho would move—" That the question of the hour of opening the exhibition be reconsidered.” The Chairman reported that the Lighting Committee had decided to accept an open offer from the Gas Company to light the exhibition with gaa. The question of decorating the interior of the building wae referred to the Building aid Lighting Committee, with power to act. The Chairman and Messrs Hart and Triggs were appointed a sub* committee to consider the question of badges for the members of the various committees, and to report at next meeting. The committee adjourned to 3 p.m., on Monday next.
