The inaugural meeting of the Ellesmere Trotting Club was held on Saturday on the gram track laid out by Mr W. Spring in the. paddock recently acquired by him as a ■ .recreation ground for the district, opposite the<Leeston Hotel. The track, which isnearly one-third of a mile in circumference, had not been used previous to thia meeting, and was rather soft and in jplaces rough and slippery.-but it.improved *ai- the afternoon went on, and will be a 'fcttbd 'trbfcUng track. Tliere was a fair attendance, including a number of the “cash-fielding” fraternity from Ghrist- ■ ehurch—the meeting being run without the totalisator.
