LONDON, May 22. Four and a half per cent debentures, Australian and New Zealand Mortgage Agency, 102. The quantity of wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 8,840,000 quarters, and for the Continent 1,610,000 quarters. Mr Hotson, of the Newport Meat Freezing Works, Victoria, expects that the English trade will improve in the autumn. He has paid a visit to Paris, hut the French Government doss not show any sign of willingness to relax the present restrictions. London, he considers, is well provided with means for the distribution of frozen meat, but extension and encouragement are urgently required in the provinces. He forecasts a great future for direct trade with Manchester and Glasgow. At a meeting of the Otago and Southland Investment Company, Mr James Jackson, who presided, said that the last debenture issue by the company resulted in £92,000 being subscribed. Debentures to the value of £265,000 expired in a year, and these were being renewed at 93. Mat 23. Victorian wheat cargoes, ex Boadicea and Gael, have been sold at 24s 6d. A South Australian cargo, ex Alexander Black, sold at 26s 3d. At the wool sales there was again keen competition for good sorts. Americans are buying cross-breda freely. The American visible supply of wheat is 66,970,000 bushels. BRISBANE, May 23. The sugar yield for the coming season is estimated at 102,000 tons, compared with 90,000 tons for the previous season. Crushing begins on June 16, and the new sugar market opens in the first week in July. SYDNEY, May 23. The silver market ia weaker, and shares have been sold at slightly lower rates.
