Tha Acting-Mayor | said that tho Council would think it no | hardship to do something for the nnraI ployed if it was in a position to do it; | fortunately they viero not much troubled j with unomployed in Timaru. Councillor | Owens said that the proposal ran counter to I all former practice and principle, winch s wars that the local bodies should look alter | tho poor o£ their districts. Councillor Grandi I said that tho Christchurch City Council brought trouble upon, itself last winter by j making preparations, thus inviting the j unemployed to assemble there.
