SCHOOL COMMITTEES .

At the meeting of Ksiapoi School Committoa on Monday thoro were present Messrs Moore (in the chair). Conn, Fraser, Clark, Young, Caverhill, M’Kifinsy and the Mayor. ‘ ' Correspondence was received from the Education Board, stating that the amount money spent on a piano had not bean refunded, sn'd asking if the members of the committee were prepared to pay it, Mr Cavorhiil proposed the following motions : " (1) Thai this committee’s responsibility in connection, with tha accounts dates ouiy from its election on April 23, 1595 (vide a meeting of the Board regarding Feraaida school, on May 8) ; (2) that this committee hue no funds available from which it can refund the £25 paid for piano. (8) That this committee respectfully submits that tbe Board would ha ve no legal right to deduct the sum of £25 from the incidental grant, and points cut that were this action taken it would be a groat hardship upon the children attending the school, as it would necessitate tha -stoppage of the usual supply of coals in the winter weather; (4) That there ia nothing in the minutes of the committee showing ths names of any of tbe committee aa responsible for the vote to authorise the purchase, also that some who were then on tha committee are now dead and others have left, aloe that the purchase of the piano was made in good faith, and that the Board did not supply the committee with a printed circular stating what the incidental funds coaid be spent on until after the piano had bsen obtained same mouths; that the instrument was purchased for the bettor teaching of music to the pupils, in the place of one that had baon lent; also that the piano cornea under the head of echoed furniture.” These motions were seconded by Mr Feld wick and carried unanimously. The Chairman stated that the school had been closed during the potato picking season, and would be re-opened on Monday next. Messrs Feldwick and Caverhill were elected as the Visiting Committee., Accounts amounting to £l3 19s 8d were passed, subject to two accounts! being certified as correct by tbe Visiting Committee. A letter waa .Secaived from the Board, approving tha appointment of Mesern Mathers and Lynskey aa teachers. The meeting than terminated. The monthly meeting of the Flarton School Committee was held on Monday evening; present—Messrs—J. V. Chapterton (chairman), J. Lancaster. W. Doicige, T. Clothier, T. Hopkins, G. Grant and S. R. Wright. The master’s report showed the number on the roll to be 80, the average attendance 70. The report on the side school showed the number on tbe roll to be 24, aud the average attendance 20. The Inspector's report was received, showing the school to be in a satisfactory condition. The Chairman was instructed to take proceedings against parents for not sending their children to school regularly. A letter from the Progressiva Liberal Association was read and dealt with. ‘ ■
