THE SAVAGE CLUB.
The opening “ korerc” of the present season of the Christchurch Savage Club took place in the hall of the Chamber of Commerce last evening, and was a success in every way. Over one hundred Savages Were present, and if last night’s meeting is any criterion, the club has even more Vitality than it had during the previous year's existence. XJpon the entry of the Council they Were accorded the orthodox greeting by. the assembled Savages, and the ceremony of installing the newlyelected .Chief Savage (Dr Jennings) was impressively performed by Bro Savage E. W.* Ebper, who invested him with his insignia of office. An ode, specially composed for the.occasion by Savage S. W. Eoper, add set to music by Savage A. W. Merton, waa then sung by rthe braves, afterjwhicli' the Chief Savage gave an address, in which he pointed out the objects of the Order, impressing upon the assembly the necessity of sociability. A number of visitors ware then introduced, including General Pulton, Mr W. J, Wadham (President of the Adelaide Ijlasel Club) M. Eomanis (of the Swedish Savage Club),, and Meesrc Patterson (of the Dunedin Club) .and C. Lindsay (of the Melbourne Club). A very pleasant time was then spent, several of the Savages and visitors entertaining the company with songs, recitations and stories, in prose and verse, some of which were original productions, and bore evidence to the fact that there is some exceptionally good talent amongst the members. The “ korero ” was closed by an ode composed by Bro Savage 6» P;..Williams, and sung to an air from Patience. The next 'meeting of the Club will be held on Monday evening next.
