At the monthly Board meeting of the Wellington Typographical Union, . the President reported that a deputation of unemployed compositors representing fortyone men had waited upon him, and ra-i quested that the Board should take some? action in connection with taking on .hands, at the Government Printing-office next session. They considered that there were quite sufficient men here at the present time from all parts of the colony to meet the demand. The Board decided to wait) upon Sir P. A, Buckley, Minister in charge of the Deportment', in connection with the matter; also, to send a list of the unemployed to the other Typographical Societies in the colony, with a view of their placing the matter before their members. GRBYMOUTH, Mat 13. One of the unemployed is going : round taking the signatures of men who have been out of employment for some time. Ha began yesterday, and has already received a hundred signatures, though, many more ate known to bo out of work. The matter will be brought under the notice of the Premier when he visits the Coast shortly., O AMARU, Mat 13. The New Zealand Workers’ Union is asking the Government to accept the names of unemployed from the Secretaries of Unions, instead of having the men visiting bureaus and police stations day after day.

The usual weekly meeting of the executive of the New Zealand Workers’ Union was held at the head office, Waimate, on Saturday evening, tho President in _ the chair. Correspondence was dealt with : Prom Mr J. W. Kelly, respecting Union matters in Southland; from Temuko, Kaikoara, Marlborough, Tapanui and Camara reporting progress. It was decided that, pursuant to passed at the late conference, the President should visit Oamaru on May 20, when the general meeting would ba held. Prom the Pioneer Assembly Knighta of Labour, Auckland,' respecting old age pensions, and rating unimproved land values. Tho Secretary was instructed to write to the Hon W. P. Eeeves on the last-mentioned subject j also, with reference to the unemployed. On a motion proposed by Vice-President Walker, a by-law dealing with expenditure by branches was approved of. Mr O’Brien was instructed' to inform branches as to the amount fixed for Eecrafcariea’ salaries at the Christchurch and Tamnka ;coaferonces. After dealing with matters of routine, the meeting ended. A special meeting of the New Zealand Workers’Union was held at the Union’s office. Terminus Buildings, Manchester Street, when there was a good attendance. Mr W. W. Collins (President) occupied the chair. After correspondence had been dealt with, Mrs Gr.tmson, as delegate from the recent conference utTomuka, gave her report, which was considered satisfactory. She also explained the vote of censure that was passed upon her by the executive, as tho "matter "camo up before conference. After a long discussion, the vote of censure was expunged from ■ the minutes, and Mrs Garmson was exonerated from all blame in the matter, as her action was considered necessary. Other badness relative to the Union occupied the rest cf the evening. The meriting adjourned, after passing a vote of thanks to tho Chairman, until Saturday, May 25, when the election of officers takes place.
