SUNNYSIDE ASYLUM.
TO THE EDITOK. SiKj—la a sub-loader of last Friday’fl issue, under tho above bonding, you mads raforonce to a letter of mine, published a few days ago. You state that an official document bar. been placed at your disposal, wherein Dr Leviago otates that tho April cheques for Suunyuido arrived in Christchurch from "Wellington on May 2, and that the attendants were paid the same evening; and then you say that that doea not bear out my assertion _as to the attendants’ salaries often being overdue. I maintain that such a statement fully bears out my assertion in this one instance at least, aa their salaries were due on April 30. Thus, they were two days overdue. However, this is only one instance, and as I mentioned no particular month. Dr Levinge’s statement does not remove one iota from my assertion. On more than on© occasion last year the attendants had to wait four or fivo days for their pay, end it is only a few months ago that they were kept waiting over a week. That I am not altogether ignorant of the facts of the case I think I have already proved to you, and you are mistaken in supposing that I wished to throw any discredit on the asylum management. I only wished to see justice done and rh existing evil removed, and as Dr Lovinga has, by his prompt action in thia matter, made it quite clear that his department is in no way to blame, the fa alt must lay with the Wellington department, and the sooner they awake to a livelier sense of their duties and responsibilities the sooner justice, iu this respect, will be dona to the poor, overworked and underpaid attendants. Thanking you in anticipation.—l am, &o. t LANDLORD.
