DEAF MUTES INSTITUTE.
On Tuesday evening tha children belonging to the Dea£ Mute Institution were treated by theEev J.B. Smalley, of Kaicpoi,. assisted by Mr Parker, to an excellent lime-light entertainment ia the Public Hall, Sumner, which they greatly enjoyed. There was also a large attendance of the general public. Musical selections were kindly given by Mro Preston, Miss Sweet, Messrs Stevens, Allan and Blaxland.- Oa Wednesday afternoon a chrysanthemum show waa held ia the dining-room of the institution, at which the children exhibited their own blooms. Tha Eev E. Erwin, Mr Evans, and HiosyCunningham kindly sent out prize flowers from the Christchurch exhibition, to show the children to what a degree of excellence the chrysanthemum can be cultivated. The tables were prettily decorated with ferns and palms belonging to Mrs P. Hill, Fine collections of chrysanthemums were also shown by Misa Kay, Mrs Mills, Mrs Morton, and Mrs Watson. There was a large attendance of the public.
