MEETINGS OF CREDITORS.

J. P. HAUGHIE. The first meeting of creditors in tha estate of Joseph Patrick Haughie, contractor, of Little River, was held yesterday morning, at the Official Assignee’s office. There were six creditors present. Mr Byrne appeared for the bankrupt, and' Mr Slater for the petitioning creditor.: The bankrupt’s statement showed:— Unsecured creditors, .£303 Oa lid, secured creditors, £SO; estimated value of securities, £GO; surplus, £lO. Assets— Property, £ls; surplus from securities, £10; total assets, £25; deficiency, £278 Oa lid. Thera were twenty-two unsecured creditors, those for £5 and upwards being; —G. Tidymau, Akaroa, £l6; J. Malmanobe, Akaroa, £l2; A. Smith, Oxford, £l9 15s; John Smith, Oxford, £l2 3s Id; A. Beckingsale, Addington, £l4 5s 6d; C. Marsh, West Oxford, £l3 la 6d; C. King, West Oxford, £l2 17s; R. Smith, Little River. £6 14s; J. W. Smith, West Oxford, £39 3s; J. Lines and Co., Barry’s Bay, £6; A. Alspp, Little River, £2l 17s 9d; A. Mitchelßon, Little River, £3B 17s 2d; H. Whit®, Little River, £22 15s sd; Thomas Taylor, Christchurch, £8 la Id; G. L. Beafch and Co., £6 lOs 'Sd; Ashby, Bergh and Co., £l4 16s; S., Harris, Little River, £57 11s. The .secured creditor was August Mayors, labourer. Little River, who hold a mortgage over part of Rural Section 1575 to secure £SO and interest, at 6 per cant. The property consisted of a wooden houoe of ; four small rooms, built on Western Valley Road, valued at £lO, and the lease of a sixroomed house on Main Road, Little River, six years, from January, 1894, at £5 par annum,; total, £ls. The debtor, in his sworn atatemeut.caitl that he was a contractor, living at Little River, where he had been for about seven years. Last year he had been working his eawmilling plant at a loss. He mortgaged his plant for £SO to Mr Rutland, who sold iti He had made heavy losses on fcimber supplied on contracts. He also lost seven bullocks by death. Ho hired the bullocks from Mr H. White. .Some of them were old. He sold timber to Mr W. White, at the Little River Station, at 4s fid par hundred. He could not pay wages at that rate. He also contracted to supply timber to Mr White, at 6s 6d and 11s for sap and heart timber respectively. This lasted during January and February of 1894. In March tha price of sap was lowered to 3s 6d, and of heart increased to 12s, at which rate he could .pay wages. At these prices ha supplied timber under contract (4a 6d for short) up to • last when.he stopped the mill. About August last the heart timber was reduced to 9s 6d. The work paid well enough till June last, when the weather was bad and the bullocks began to die. In December last he. made an assignment of moneys owing 'to him by Mr Whiter to Mr .S. Harris, for the benefit of the wages men. It was not acted on, because of action taken by some of his creditors. He was | working bush belonging to Mr H. White, Lor which he paid a royalty of la per 100 ft Lorheari and fid for sap, and he mired the bullocks from Mr White at 4s per head per week, agreeing to replace those which died, and he replaced seven. _ ; After some further questions and. discneaion.it was decided to adjourn the meeting, and the Official Assignee was empowered to call for all contracts and agreements, and a statement of all moneys received and paid by the debtor.

JOHN PEECT. Thp adjourned meeting of the creditors ip the estate of John Percy, bootmaker,' op Oolomo Street, was held yesterday afternoon. There were five creditors present. Mr Raphael appeared for tha debtor. Some discussion took place, in the course of which the Assignee said that he would get certain information necessary in the in-, teresta, of the creditors. Mr H. Toomer said that he was dissatisfied with the conduct of the debtor, but was not prepared to take any action against him. The meeting shortly afterwards adjourned, .the estate being left in the hands of the Official-Assignee,
