LAND BOARD.

A meeting of tha Canterbury Land Board was bold on Thursday; present— Messrs J. W. A. Merchant (Commissioner), D. M’Millan, A. C. Pringle, E. Meredith and the Hon W. 0. Walker. Applications . were granted as follows James Everett, 5 acres at Pigeon Bay, on lease in perpetuity; S. W. Sewell, 100 acres, village homestead, Shepherd’s Bush, oa lease in perpetuity. Tha application of P. Thoreau for Lota 6, 7, 8 and 9, Canningtoa Settlement was refused, the lands having been previously disposed of. The following applications for exchange of perpetual lease for lease in perpetuity were granted: —E. Allan, Opuha, 586 a 2r lOp; W. Murray, Opuha, 638 a Ir 2p; N. Ballaatyne, Opuha, 57-la 3r 39p; J. G. Ballaatyne, Opuha, 320 a. Several transfers of leases and licenses ware approved. It was decided to withdraw lots I and 3, Reserve 2165, SeaSald, from selection, and to ra-offsr thorn nndsr Part 111. of tha Land Act, 1892. The report of the Crown Lands Banger referred to the question of residence on holdings in the View Hill Village Settlement, and the Board resolved to recommend tho Minister of Lands to increase the holdings of tha settlers 100 acres each, and to deal with the question of residence on the merits of Che respective cases. After consideration it was resolved to declare a number of lesson forfeited on account of non-payment of arrears thereunder. These included two small grazing runs at Station Peaks, one deferred payment license at Medbury, eleven perpetual lease sections at Waimate, one in the Selwyn survey district, one at View Hill, one at Babbit Island, one at Arowhenus, one at Tekapo and Pukaki, and one at Geraldine and Pareora. In four other cases where the arrears of rent had been paid, it was resolved to cancel the forfeiture of the leases. In eight cases of arrears it was resolved not to cancel the leases until after the next meeting of the Board; and in a number of other cases further extensions of time were granted. The Commissioner of Crown Lands reported the action that had been taken in tho oases of the Station Peaks and other small grazing runholders who had applied for reduction of their rents or I other relief, and it was resolved to endorse the Commissioner’s circular of May 4, and to authorise him to arrange for special meetings of the Board to be held in Christchurch and Timaru at early dates, to deal with tha applications. It waa decided to call upon defaulters in respect of miscellaneous leases and licenses to pay forthwith or forfeit their interest!?. The commission reported that Eun 6070, Haldon Station, had been offered for sale bn April 4, but had not bean sold. It was decided, with tho approval of the Minister of Lands, to offer Mr A. Morton a license to occupy for one year, from March 1, 1895, at a rental of *2500. It waa decided to recommend the Minister of Lands to grant Mr D. Matheaon a license to occupy run No. 92, part of Banmora Station, for two years, under Section 219 of the Land Act, 1892, at a rental of *230 per annum ; also, to authorise the Commissioner to arrange, as far as possible, to enable Mr Matheaon to levy on adjoining licenses for values of boundary fencing. _ Proposals for the expenditure of thirds, submitted by the Board* were approved.
