RICCARTON TRAINING NOTES. Thursday. A clear morning with a cold wind from the north-east made it a difficult matter for the onlookers to keep warm enough to thoroughly appreciate the good work done. Gutts, ns usual, set the ball rolling by sending Safeguard : once round, the filly finishing the last five or six furlongs - fast. Golden Fleece and Barmby cantered to tho seven furlong-post, and galloped home together. The light at that time was not good enough to admit of tho gallop being timed, but Barmby seamed to finish better than the filly. North Atlantic, alone, with his trainer (Boyle) in tho saddle, cantered round to the mile-and-a-half post, and then strode away fast. He was joined by Ebor at the mile, but they were not companions far as North Atlantic drew right away shortly after turning into the straight, and finished the distance aa he started, alone, in 2min 42sec. Empire covered two rounds on tha sand at half-pace, and Au Revoir a similar distance at a faster rate for the last mile. Silver Spec and Goodwood jumped off at the mile-and-a-quarterpost, and galloped fast to tha half-mile. They then spoiled what might otherwise hove been a good gallop, by slowing down. Goodwood, who had a very light weight up, quite held his own. Msdieus and Cannon Ball spurted six furlongs fast, the last five taking Imin 6sec. Artillour easily beat Nirvana over five furlongs in Itnia Bsec, aad Wedlock carrying W. Clark was of no assistance to Neroli in a mile gallop done in Imin 51sec. Eulnine cantered, and Barnardo moving sore covered t-vo zounds at half pace. Much Ado and St John spurted half a mile fast, and Pop’em made a feeble attempt to do likewise. Strephon pulling hard negotiated three rounds steadily, and Eangiatea after cantering once round on the sand, accompanied Shsrpshot one mile at threequarter pace on the grass. Liberator and Clarence galloped twice round over the hurdles, both horses jumping well. After breakfast Suaspot accomplished two rounds steadily on the sand. Skirmisher covered once round at halfpaco, and was joined by Solano for another, which was covered by the pair at three-quarter speed. Loveshot, Sprig of Myrtle and St Louis galloped six furlongs, Loveshot finishing half a length in front of St Louis in Imin IQisec. Gipsy Grand, despite the fact that he was carrying more weight, could hardly be held back to Matemma and Euroclydon at the finish of fivefurlonga run in Imin Sjaec. Outpost and Casket, evidently with a view to confusing watch - holders, were dispatched some chains behind the mile and a half post; the pair ware joined by Hippomenes three-quarters of a mile from home. Needless to remark, Hippomenes beat his stable companion, who in turn heat Casket. The Yaldhurst youngsters, Bloodshot, Mauser, Mannlicher, and Musketry, the last named on a lead, were trotting and cantering, and a number of other horses accomplished unimportant work. Friday. The weather was clear and mild this morning, but owing either to a belief trainers possess concerning Good Friday, or to the fact that moat of the horses here were galloped fast yesterday, very little fast work was accomplished. Cutta was, as usual, first out, but the members of his team were all restricted to walking exercise. Ebor negotiated two rounds on the plough, the first at half and the second at three-quarter pace. North Atlantic covered a similar distance on the same track. The Napier horse pulled hard, and appears none the worse for his gallop yesterday. St John and Medicus were amongst those that cantered, and Lunaire and Starling separately spurted the last five furlongs of one round fast. Liberator covered two rounds, the last mile fast; and Eangiatea a similar distance at half-pace. Neroli, Sharpshob, Strephon, Silver Spec, Marino and Goodwood were all restricted to cantering exercise ; and Au Revoir, in sweaters, galloped twice round, being assisted by Cannon Ball over the last six furlongs. Kulnine and Barnard negotiated two rounds on tbe plough, the first at halfuace and tbe second fast, the last mile and a quarter being covered in 2min 22$seo. Much Ado, Artilleur, Pop’em, Nirvana, Sprig of Myrtle and Bisley cantered; Barmby merely walked; and Bishop’s, M’Guinesidfl and Goodman’s teams were walking about tho roads. Britomarte and Black and Red, in charge of Mercsr, arrived from Dunedin last night to fulfil their respective engagements at the Canterbury Jockey Club’s Autumn Meeting. NORTH CANTERBURY JOCKEY CLUB.
