Government is sending two surveyors immediately to the Uriwera country to make a triangulation survey of the territory, about half a million acres, for a topographical map. The work is expected to occupy a year. A large block in the King Country, Wharepuhunga, one hundred and thirty-five thousand lucres, purchased by Government, will bs thrown open fox settlement in about three mouths. Mr William Duncan, superintending valuer under the Advances to Settlers Act, has left for the north on departmental business. The work of the office has considerably increased, and applications fop loans arrive in batches. An inquiry has for some days past been proceeding at the hospital in reference to certain complaints said to have been made by one of the nurses, and other matters* The inquiry is being held in private.
