CHRISTCHURCH.' Wednesday, March 6. (Before Messrs G. W. Russell and W. H. Hargroavea, J.P.’s. Drunkenness.— A first offender was fined 5s and costs, in default the usual alternative. Larceny.— Joseph Barnett (aged 16), oa remand, was charged with having, on Feb. 13, at St Martin’s, Opawa, stolen from the fiwelling-houaa of Arthur Haskett, a suit of clothes, value £3 15s. The accused, who had admitted the offence, was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon. (Before Mr R. Beethatn, S.M.) Miscellaneous.— James Lewis, for allowing a cow to wander at large in Cathedral Square on Feb. 17, was fined 5s and coats. Mary Bush, for keeping a child under the ago of two years for a longer period than three consecutive days without being registered as the occupier of & house under the " Infant Life Protection Act, 1893,” was fined 10s and costs. Shop and Shop Assistants Act.— Henry Tack was charged with foiling to close hia shop at one o’clock on Thursday afternoon. Fab. 7, the same being a halfholiday. Mr Stringer appeared to prosecute oh behalf of the Inspector of Factories. Defendant was convicted, and judgment reserved pending the hearing of other cases.—J. Shaman was charged with keeping his shop open oa Thursday afternoon, Feb. 7. Mr Joyat appeared for defendant. The defence was that defendant’s wife looked after the shop. In cross-examina-tion defendant admitted that his son occasionally assisted in the shop. Decision reserved.—Adolf Schlesingor, for whom Mr Joynt appeared, was charged with keeping hia shop open on the afternoon of Fob. 7. The defendant stated that his wife was the only person who assisted him in the shop, and they resided on the premises. Defendant had nothing to do with the hairdressing saloon, which was leased by a young man named King. Tack and Shaman were each fined la and costs. Judgment was reserved in the case against Sehiesinger. . Maintenance. Thomas Ferriek was ordered to pay 5a a week towards tfao support of his father, Anthony Ferrick.— John Alexander . Taft was charged with failing to contribute towards the eupport of hia illegitimate child. Mr Cress well appeared for the mother of the child, and Mr Beswick for defendant. After hearing evidence the defendant was ordered to pay 5s a week and the complainant 2s 6d a weak towards the support of the. child. No order wsa made as to coats.
