SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

The Belfast School Committee met on Wednesday evening; present Messrs Nichols (chairman), Thompson, Pepperoll and Efisterbrook,. The head-master's report showed the average attendance for the past month to have been IBS‘7 out of a roll number of 217. It was resolved to vote for Messrs Joyce, Westenra and Cresswell as members of the Education Board. Accounts amounting to £6 10s were passed for payment. The usual monthly meeting of the Waltham School Committee was held on Tuesday evening; present—Messrs Baker, Brocklehurst, Joll, Maddern, Laugdown, Sim and Wraight. The head-master reported that the average attendance for the past month had bsen 420, the number on the roll being 481, and that all the pupilteachers had passed their examinations in their respective years, four being placed in the first-class. It was resolved to hold the annual concert, and a sub-committee consisting of the master and mistress and Messrs Lawrey, Belgrave, Croakill and Dixon was appointed to fix a date and make all necessary arrangements. A special meeting of the Greendale School Committee was held on Friday evening; present—Messrs Rudd (chairman), Wilson, Holland, Thompson and Johnson. Correspondence was received:— From the General Manager of Railways in reference to school children’s cheap railway r excursions. The committee highly appreciated the concessions offered, but as the children bad just received their prizes it was resolved that advantage of the offer could nob be taken at present. Prom the the Hawke’s Bay School Committee in reference to the interchange of inspectors. It was decided to recommend an exchange of inspectors iu districts where only one inspector resides, and also to recommend an “ annual conference of inspectors.” The committee decided to support the candidature of Messrs Saunders, Cresswell and Webb for seats on the Education Board. A large amount of other correspondence was dealt with. Messrs Rudd, Jarman, Holland and the teachers were appointed a committee to carry out the annual school concert.

A special meeting o£ the Ashley School Committee was held on Monday evening; present—Messrs W. G. Whiteside, 0. Jolly, D. Dick, D. Collie and C. Bowron. In the absence of the Chairman, Mr Whiteside was voted to the chair. It was decided to vote for Messrs Westenra, Webb and Richardson for the vacancies on the Board of Education, and to write to the District Traffic Manager for farther particulars regarding school excursions. It was reported that one of the pupils of the school stood at the head of the list at the recent examination for scholarships at the Kangiora High School. The monthly meeting of the Rangiora School Committee was held on Wednesday evening, all the members being present. A letter was received from the Board, authorising Mr S. Smith, assistant master, to inflict corporal punishment, it was decided to vote for Messrs Saunders, Sawle and Douglass’ election to the Education Board. The master reported the roll number to be 436, and the average attendance for the last week 365 - 8. It was decided to procure a set of models for teaching solid geometry. Mr A. B. Blackett gave notice of motion plied with certificates on passing each standard.” A circular from the Railway Department respecting school excursions was received, and it was decided to suggest March 14 as a suitable date for an excursion from Rangiora to Christchurch. Messrs A. B. Blackett and C. I. Jennings were appointed the Visiting Committee for the month.
