WESLEYAN CONFERENCE.
[Per Press Association.] NELSON, Feb. 28, The general conference of the Wesleyan Church opened to-day. The Rev D. M’Nicoll delivered an address, in which he spoke of the good results of the year. There were 383 more members returned this year than last, and 228 Cf more bearers. There were now m connection with the five annual conferences 645 ministers, 84,164 members and 459,671 attendants. Thus in four years there had been an increase of 27 ministers, 10,795 members and 38,996 adherents. He spoke on the subjects of Methodist Union, the Supernumeraries’ Fund, foreign missions, Maori missions, home missions, higher education, the Advocate, the liquor traffic and the future of the Church, urging that the future would be what they made it.
The Rev J. H. Simmonds was, on a second ballot, elected president for the current year, and the Rov D. J• Murray secretary. A resolution congratulating the Rev 11.
