CHRISTCHURCH CITY MISSION.

Mr Thomas Herrick has addressed, the following circular-letter to the subscribers to the City Mission Hear JTrieade,— Haring lately passed through a very painful illness, which has led to the amputation of my right leg, and now being sufficiently recovered to resume my duties again as Superintendent to the above Home, I feel it a duty on my part to inform all my subscribers, and to seelc « renewal of their sympathy and support this year, as in the past, lest they might think I am unable to carry on the work, and by withdrawing their financial help cripple the institution very much. It is my intention to go on with the wprk—a work that has for years past proved a help and blessing to vary many destitute and suffering ones; a work that I am not only willing to suffer for, but to give my life (such as it is) to he spent for ** His poor.” Sod, I humbly believe, called me to this work; and it will only be when He takes me from it, or permits others more fitted to take my place, that I shall relinquish,, the task of devoting my life in ’ sidsring the poor.” Allow me; therefore, through this appeal, to ask you to stand by me, and let me .have your help as usual this year. I fear but that I shall be able to, carry on the' work successfully. It is not my God’s. Ha has called me as His labourer to this pot* tion of Hia vineyard. How, through me. He calls you as His steward to supply my needs, not only money, hue your sympathy and prayer, to uphold me m His name.— Believe me to be, your obedient servant among the poor, Thomas Hbbbice, Superintendent C.M.H.
