[Special to Press Association.] MELBOURNE, Feb. 27. ' The Victorian Club’s rooms were almost deserted last 'night. Bessie M’Catthy is weaker, an offer to lay 500 to‘7o being unheeded. Wakawatea would have received ■support at 100 to 9, h«t .100 to 10 was the best, offer.. .1000 to. 50 was taken about Barbarian and Broken Hill, 1000 to 40 about Fragment and'Eiridsforde, and 3000 to 90 about Bradford. Vanitaa at present is on an equality with Wakawatea for second place in the betting, and is likely to see a short price. Pending the final acceptances to-morrow betting is limited. During the day there waa an evident disposition to lay against The Harvester for the Australian Cup at the present price of 100 to 25, bat the bookmakers were averse to springing a point or two, aa the Derby winner ia entered for only three events, the St Leger,.. Australian Cup and Champion Stakes, and will probably try to win the treble. ’ Walwa has been scratched for all engagements. Bal Giorno, Sunburnt, All Thera and Milkmaid have been scratched for the Newmarket Handicap.
