ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
THE IMPRISONED MINERS. [Special to Press Association.] LONDON, Feb. 26. The miners imprisoned in the Whitwood colliery have been rescued. AN EXPLOSION. SYDNEY, Feb. 27. An explosion took place to-day at the Gas Company’s works in Pitt Street, the testing-room and kitchen being wrecked. Portions of walls and other dihris were blown into the street, and several passersby had narrow escapes. [Per Press Association.] HAWEEA, Feb. 27. Edward Carroll, aged twenty-eight, while loading a gun at Okaiawa, had the calf of one of his legs blown away owing to the gun going off. He was removed to the hospital, but died a few minutes afterwards from loss of blood.
