The capital of the natives was shelled and the operations were completely successful, though the position was vigorously defended by sixteen hundred negroes, armed with Enfields and aided by a concealed battery. Many war canoes were captured and two sunk. The operations have now ended, two warships being left on guard. THE NEW ORIENTAL BANK. The liquidators of the new Oriental Bank have declared a fourth dividend of la. A DRASTIC BILL. The Glasgow Corporation Police Bill now before the House of Commons imposes fines for conversing with a lady in the streets, for exposing carcases of meat unless covered, and for possessing a pack of cards in a private house. It also provides for licensing and housing nows boys. The Bill was referred to a committee. THE EGYPTIAN CRISIS, Feb. 26. Eouiller Bey, the Khedive’s secretary, is believed to be the instigator of the hostile attitude adopted, by that youthful potentate. The Times advises him in future not to listen to irresponsible counsellors urging him to actions likely to disturb the peace of the wrn’id, / THE PACIFIC CABLE. In the House of Commons, Mr Buxton said that the resolution passed at the Canadian Conference, that in the event of the laying of the Pacific cable it should he extended to Capo Colony, was now under consideration, but he declined to give any more information on the subject at present. SICILY. ROME, Feb. 26.
The whole of Sicily is ia a disturbed state. Three bands of armed conspirators have been arrested. The troops in the island have been reinforced. THE BEHRING SEA AWARD. WASHINGTON, Feb. 26. The Lower House, by a majority of thirty-one votes, declined to pay the award made to Great Britain by the Behring Sea Commission. A PROTEST. The obsequies of Archduke Albrecht, of Austria, were of a most impressive character.
