AUCKLAND NEWS.
[Peb Press Association. I AUCKLAND. Jan. 19. The Chamber of Commerce has resolved to co-operate with other New Zealand Chambers in taking joint action to protest against the compulsory use of the cable code used by the Eastern Extension Telegraph Company. The traffic on the Eotorua Eailway is considered very satisfactory, both as regards passengers and goods. Practically speaking, the whole of the goods for Eotorua now go by rail. The Government has reduced the price for purici sleepers from 4s to 3s 6d. There is great dissatisfaction among those who, having abandoned gum digging owing to the low prices, have taken to splitting sleepers. In most oases they have to pay a royalty of 6d per sleeper.
