[Special to Peebs Association.! MELBOURNE, Deo. 27. . The following team will represent Australia in the second test match against Stoddart'a English Eleven, which begins in Melbourne on Saturday night;—Bruce, Coningham, Darling, Gregory, G. Giffen, Iredale, A. Jarvis, Lyons, H. Trotfc, Trumble and Turner. Harry ie the twelfth man. The accident to hia hand in the last test match at Sydney has incapacitated the crack wicket-keeper Blackham, whose place is to be taken by Jarvis. In the second innings of the Victorians, Turner took four wickets for 65, Calloway two for 39, Howell three for 66, Newell two for 85. The second innings of the New South Wales team closed for 194, of which Gregory scored 102 aud Callaway 23. A. Trott took five wickets for 55 runs, H. Tcott three for 47, C. M’Leod one for 35. Victoria won the match by 161 runs. FORMATION OF A NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL. A conference of delegates from the various Cricket Associations in the colony was held last night, at the City Hotel, to consider the question of establishing a New Zealand Cricket Association; present —Messrs E. H. Williams and C. ,B. Smith (Hawke’s Bay), A. M. Ollivier andß. Gore (Wellington), J. Smytke (Otago), J. H. Wood (Nelson), W. J. Gotterill and E. D. Harman (Taranaki), Hon B. C. J. Stevens (Auckland), G. A. W. Taffer (Southland), and L. A. Guff and T. D. Harman (Canterbury.) Mr Williams (president of the Hawke’s Bay Cricket Association) was voted to the chair. He said that he thought great good would ba done to cricket in New Zealand by the establishment of a ruling body to direct cricket affairs. He hoped that the outcome of the establishment of a New Zealand Cricket Association would he the initiation of matches between New Zealand and the other colonies, and that the Association would take under its charge interprovineial matches also. On the motion of Mr Ollivier, seconded by Mr Tapper, it was resolved—“ That an Association bo formed, to be called the New Zealand Cricket Council.” The conference proceeded to consider regulations for the Council, a draft prepared by the Canterbury Association being taken as the basis. It was decided that the objects of the Associataon should be— (a) The advancement of the game of cricket throughout New Zealand. (6) The arrangement of intercolonial and foreign cricket matches, (c) The making of all arrangements incident to the visits of all teams to New Zealand; and the management and control'of all New Zealand representative teams playing either within or outside of New Zealand, (d) The control and arrangement of all interprovineial matches, (e) "The settlement of all disputes or differences between Associations' represented on the Council. (/) The adoption of all rules or amendments from time to time passed by the Marylebone Cricket Club. “

The conference then* proceeded to consider the constitution of the Council.

It was agreed That the Council should consist of the Associations of Auckland, Canterbury, Hawke’s Bay, Otago, Southland, Taranaki, Wellington and Nelson, and all Associations subsequently admitted, one Association only to be admitted from each provincial district. That an annual meeting of the Council should bo held in September each year. That the headquarters of the Council should be in Christchurch. That the officers , should be president, vice-presi-dents—one nominated by each affiliated Association—honorary secretary and honorary treasurer. That the affairs of the Association should be managed by a committee consisting of the officers and delegates. That, interprovincial matches for each ensuing season should bo arranged at each annual meeting of the Council, such arrangement to be a matter of mutual convenience. That the Auckland, Wellington, Canterbury and Otago Associations should pay an annual subscription of £2 2s, and be entitled to appoint two delegates to the General Committee; and that all other affiliated associations should pay an annual subscription of £1 Is, and be entitled to one delegate. That the colours of the council should bo black and silver facings, with fern leaf badge. That each Association. registering its colours with the Councikshould be entitled to the exclusive use of the same in interprovincial matches. Other rules referring to various matters of detail were agreed to, and the rules as a whole adopted. The following officers were elected:— President, Mr E. H. Williams (Hawke’s Bay); honorary secretary, Mr C. E. Smith (Canterbury); honorary treasurer, Mr T. D. Harman (Canterbury). On the motion of Mr Cuff, seconded by Mr T. D. Harman, it was resolved —“ That it be a recommendation to the committee of the Council to arrange a North and South Island match, to be held alternately in each island in seasons when, no New Zealand match is being played,” After some routine matters had been discussed, and a vote of thanks passed to the Chairman, the conference adjourned to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 29.

A match was played at Hegley Park on Boxing Day between, the Post and Telegraph Department and the Lands and Survey Departments, when the former won on the first innings by 64 runs. The game, which is the first played between these departments, was a most enjoyable one. Mesdamea W. B'. Day and Treweek dispensed afternoon tea, which was greatly appreciated by the players and their friends. The scores were:—Post and Telegraph 185 (Treweek not out 104, Northcroit 45, Winotanley 13), Lands and Survey 121 (Marchant 24, M’Auiey 24, Day 17, Izatt 12, Panne 11, Levorsedge 10). A cricket match was played on Wednesday between the St Asaph Street Methodist Cricket Club and the Addington Methodist Cricket Club, which resulted in a victory for the latter by two wickets- The following are the scores:—Sfc Asaph Street Methodist Cricket Club 158 and 67 (Craddock 76 and 14, Sykes 37 and 3, Machia 26 and 18, Newton 1 and iG); Addington Methodist Cricket Club 126 and 103 for eight wickets (Preoborn 64 and 39, Wilson 22 and 31 not out, Weir 21 and 24), Freeborn, Bowden and Wilson bowled beat for the winners, and Machin, Eogers and Newton for the losers.
