CHINA AND JAPAN.
A GEBAT BATTLE REPORTED. [Special to Press Association.] SHANGHAI, Oct. 19. The Chinese fleet, which has been refitted, has been ordered to leave Port Arthur. Oct. 20. Another report is circulated that forty thousand Japanese troops have just left Hiroshima ia thirty-five transports. ! One hundred thousand provincial troops are massing for tbe defence of Pekin. Oct. 21. The Chinese military authorities have received reports of a great battle at the Lower Yalu. The Japanese attacked the Chinese position, but were repulsed with heavy loss. LONDON, Oct. 19. The Daily News, , in denying that the proposals submitted by Lord Rosebery for the discontinuation of the war have been flouted, asserts that the majority of the Powers are in accord with England as to the course.which should be , pursued with regard to China. YOKOHAMA, Oct. 19. The Mikado, in opening the Parliament at Hiroshima said: “We will not stop the war, till the war’s objects have been attained.” The Mikado requests authority to borrow to the extent of a hundred million dollars (twenty luLlibna sterling).
