KENNEL NOTES.

[BY SIEITTS IK “ CANTEEBUKT The Editor of tho Canterbury Times handed me the following letter, dared Wellington, Oot. 15: to the paragraph which' appeared la your issue of last week, wherein it Is stated that * I have ample and mootstrovertible documentary as well as personal proof that suggested alterations vers drafted by Mr Wark, and sent by Mr Ballhouae to Wellington months before the conference referred to,’ we have only to say that, if such was the case, the letter or letters containing such alteration or alterations must ' hare miscarried, as they wore never received by the Wellington Kennel Glob, neither did Mr Bellhouae in any way refer to them at the conference. And, wherein it la further alleged, that * Fancier,* the kennel writer in the New Zealand Mtm, used our names without permission, we hare to state that tho paragraph in that; paper was correct, and that tho writer acted with our authority—(Signed) S. Tbiggs, chairman of commmifcteo W.K.Ch| A. W. J. Cook, honorary secretary W(K.C,” Neither the writers of this letter nor the other readers of the Canterbury Times need to be assured that the first paragraph taken exception to by Messrs Trigg® afid Cook was not published without my having the proof mentioned therein. I must, of course, accept Messrs Trigga* and. Cook’s disclaimer of having received the communication. With regard to th® authorisation of the paragraph in the New Zealand Mail I can only repeat that it is an extraordinary proceeding to correct or contradict in one newspaper anything published in another. I am favoured with Mr Coupe’s brief notes on the Auckland show. It was, he gays, "a nice little show.” la reference to the Collies, Mr Coape says, Herdwiok won, with Way’s dog second. Second dog is much better in bead, and is full of character, bat Is so short of coat whan v compared to th® winner that he just'-loser; at tha same time he - is » stylish 'deg [ and no disgrace to anyone; There thing extraordinary amongst the others. The greyhounds take the “cake.” Mr Coupe had seldom seen better classes. An exceptionally fine bitcb (Mr R, Batbsifa Roe) wins the special for the best dog ill the show, with Messrs Harrison and Horras’o collie Herdwick in reserve. Tho other sporting classes were not of very high class, though Mr W. N. M’lntosh’e black Field Spaniel Boss, Mr E. Holloway’s Clumber dog Patch, and one or two of the pointer® would not bo out of place at most show®, Mr T. Skowring’s Harewood Fireworks, by Crib 11., won in the Fox terriers, two other good dogs being-Mr W. M’Oabe*® Pincher and Mr W. S. iMorrin’s Vasileethe latter was lame or would have stood higher. The section was much behind Australian form. A good Skye terrier, from Melbourne, was among the beat dogs in the show. It is a coincidence that the compilation of a Kennel Stud Book should be taken in hand almost simultaneously here and in Victoria. The Australasian says s—- “ Breeders and exhibitors will be pleated to learn that there is every probability that the long-talkod-of Stud Book is likely to fee proceeded with without further delay. There appears to be no two opinions as to the advisability of publishing a reliable record of pedigrees, and the committee (of the Victorian Poultry and Dog Society) has taken the matter in hand, and will report fully to a general meeting of members at an early date.”
