CRICKET.

The annual meeting of the Timaru Cricket Club was hold on Friday evening, Mr S. C. Raymond presiding. The balance-sheet showed assets .£lO, and liabilities nil. Nine new members were elected. Mr S. A. Bristol was elected president, Mr C. A. Jefferson captain, Mr G. Jones vice-captain, Mr C. E. Hassell secretary, Mr A. Bourn treasurer, and Mr C. S. Fraser delegate to the South Canterbury Cricket Association. A vote of thanks was passed to the ladies who provided afternoon teas at matches and assisted in the arrangements of the annual ball. The St Albans Club opened the season on Saturday, when there was a good muster of players. The weather was cold and dull and the wicket slow, which gave the bowlers an advantage. The picked eleven was opposed by twenty players foe the club. The latter wore the first to bat, but Frith and Smith dismissed them for 39 runs. None of the batsmen reached double figures. The eleven fared a little better, scoring 49. Robertson on the slow wicket was rather difficult for most of the batsmen to deal with, Parkyn 14 and Lsfferty 13 being the only double-figure scorers. Amongst., the new members Taylor, Eigher, Edmonds and Chaplin showed fair form. The Ashley County Club intended to open the season on Saturday afternoon, but the match had to be postponed owing to the ground being too soft to play upon. _____
