Somo 4000 missing heirs or relatives were advertised for daring 1893, among them the next-of-kin of a' man ' whose estate is valued at .£678,839, and who died a widower, without child or parent, brother or sister, uncle or aunt, nephew or niece. There are a host of authorities -on hydraulics and mechanics that could be quoted to support the assertion that the steam engine is not a modern, invention. Oarpini, jn the account of his travels (a.d. 1286), describes a species of mophile, or steam epgine, made in the form of a man. This contrivancewas filled with " inflammable liquid ” (probably petroleum) and made to do terrible work in the battles between the Mongols and the troops of Prester John. According to Stow, in September, 1563, the Queen’s Majesty lying in her castle at Windsor, there was set up in the market place a new pair of gallows to hang up all such as should como there from London, so that no person of any kind of wares might come or be brought from London to or through, to osrry stuff to or from London, upon pain of h'lmdug without any judgment, snd such people as received any wares out of London into Windsor were turned out of their bouses, asd their houses shut up.
