KAIAPOI BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The fortnightly meeting of the Eai&Poi Borough. Council was held oh Tuesday evening; present—The Mayor and. Councillors - MatheWisi "Weston, Whitehead," Bugg, Lisaaman, .Butt, Evans,Hopkins and Brighting. Correspondence 'was received—From the Colonial Secretary’s office, stating that the proclamation of the borough boundaries had been gazetted. ■ From the Town Clerk, explaining matters in reference to the new borough boundaries which came into force on March 12, and suggesting a meeting of the Bangiora and Mandevilla Road Board and the new. Council, to arrange the amount of rateable property to be .allotted to each, .under Section 97 of the Eating Act. The matter was ordered to be deferred till after the election of the new Council, which‘was fixed for Thursday, April 19. The Works Committee reported having fixed a pump at the North Bead sump, and that it was acting admirably. The committee recommended that a sum should be placed on the estimates for the coming financial year, for erecting st sump on the aorih side of the river. The question was deferred for the next Council. With reference to the widening of Walker Street, it was decided that the management of the Woollen Factory should fee interviewed as to exchanging a strip of land along the street for a portion running along the river side from Gam bridge, and also as to the main* tenance of the street when formed. The Lyttelton Times was appointed the official paper of the Council for the ensuing year. The finance report showed receipts J 27 7s fid, debit balance at bank i>656 15s Id. Accounts amounting to £4l Is M were passed for payment. The Town Clerk was instructed to prepare an estimate of receipts and expenditure for the ensuing financial year, to be laid before the Council at. next meeting. After some routine business had been transacted, the meeting closed.
