COMMITTEE MEETING. The ordinary monthly general meeting of the committee of the Canterbury Chamber otGommerce was held at'three o’clock j yesterday. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs Meares, Gibbs and Kaye. Aletter-was read Chamber of Commerc'd stkiitig that £ resolution would be brought forward at; its annuil St'the retirement ‘ of : Messrs MAxwall’ and Hannay from the management of the New Zealand railways';ahd asking i! it was.theinteation of the Canterbury Chamber to take any cognisance of the subject. A discussion followed, and the following resolution was carried; —“ That this committee desires to express its great appreciation of the admirable manner in which Messrs Maxwell. and Hannay have performed their duties' during their term of office, and regret that their long and valuable experience will no longer be available for the benefit of the colony.” In response to the resolution agreed to at last meeting for the improvement of the mail service between Christchurch and Blenheim, viA Kaikoura, letters were received from the Hon W. P. Reeves, Messrs G. W. Russell, D. L. Buick, C. H. Mills, M.H.R.’a, and the Postmaster-General, expressing themselves in favour of the resolution. '
