AUCKLAND, Jan. 27. Two bookmakers have been fined £SO for the alleged laying of totalisator odds. The birthday of the German Emperor was celebrated with great eclat to-day on the German warship Bussard. The French flagship Duguay Trouin waa also ablaze with bunting. The annual report of the Auckland Survey Club states that the club has taken into consideration the subjects of making leases and Native liens, and has been in communication with the Government on the subject. The club is of opinion that an improvement in the present law regarding Native liens, which the Surveyor-General acknowledges to be unsatisfactory, should be made. It has addressed the Auckland City Council, urging that city surveys should be entrusted to authorised surveyors.
