THE CHANGE IN RAILWAY MANAGEMENT.

TO THE EDITOE. Sib,— ln some respects I resemble the Tories. It takes a great deal to satisfy me, and I am not at all satisfied with the recent changes which have taken place in our railway management. In the first place, three commissioners are not necessary. , One good general manager, with the assistance of a locomotive superintendent and the present district traffic managers, would be quite sufficient to run our one-lined railways. Again, how comes it that Mr Hannay, who was. considered the bast railway expert we had in the colony, should be put away, whilst the services of Mr M’Kecrow are retained, seeing that he was thought to be like the fifth wheel to a coach. If I am correctly informed, Mr Hannay had a splendid training on the Home railways, and most thoroughly understood the traffic department in all its branches, while Mr M’Kerrow actually knew nothing about railways until taught by the late Commissioners, and'it can hardly be expected that he now knows as much as a man who has spent his life on- the railways, going through every .department like Mr'Hannay has done. I know nothing about the two new Commissioners—they may be very good *men—bub to place Mr M’Xerrow before Mr Hannay has greatly surprised soma of Mr Seddon’a greatest friends.—l am, &c.,. A DISGUSTED SHAREHOLDER.
