WELLINGTON ELECTION PETITION.
THE GROUNDS OP ACTION. [Pee Phess Association. I WELLINGTON, Jan. 2.
The petition against Sir Robert Stout’s election is addressed to the Chief Justice. It alleges that Sir Robert Stout, by his agent, A. H. Logan, offered or promised to procure valuable consideration to one William Jackson Barry to induce him to vote for Sir Robert Stoat, and that this valuable consideration was duly given in consideration of Barry having voted at the election. It is understood that this section refers to a bet Logan is alleged to have made of a suit of clothes that Sir Robert Stout would not get in. Other grounds are that Sir Robert Stout employed paid agents as clerks, canvassers, &o.; that he hired conveyances to carry electors to and from the poll; and that, by his agent. Logan, he made various wagers, bets and other risks with Barry and other persons. The petition was delivered at the re-turning-ofScer’s residence in his absence on Friday, and a duplicate copy was posted on the same date.
