TO THE EDITOB. Sib,— The letter which appeared in your columns on Thursday last is so spiteful and also inaccurate that I would pass it by in contempt were it not thst many might be misled by its wild statements. Your correspondent, who presumes to represent " the other firemen,” would not be the leader of a forlorn hope. Oh dear, no, nothing so dangerous; but he would walk safely through the breach afterwards. He would hang on to others* coat-tails and gain one more concession without risking anything. * * * The statement that these men have the privilege of holding the regulator for a few hours per week is also, to speak mildly, misleading. They hold it for half their time and are paid for it accordingly. If their services were not required they would not have this “privilege,” neither would your correspondent in his capacity. There are employes in all grades who undoubtedly have the privilege of remaining in tno employment of the Commissioners. The locomotive superintendent knows how great the privilege is, but I do not think any of these acting-men can be included in that category. The subject matter of the correspondence is not of such importance as to merit a newspaper discussion, and I shall content myself by giving your correspondent’s statements an emphatic denial.—l am, &c., QUI DOCET, DISCIT.
