ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
[Special to Pbssb Association.] THREE MEN DROWNED. MELBOURNE, Jan. 1. Tiie floods in the Qjppa’aud district are subsiding. A boat containing a rescue party was swamped, and three men. Piggbtt. Brookes and a Chinaman, were drowsed. [Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND. Daw. 1. A prisoner named James A. Kerigg, a recent arrival from Australia, who was arrested on two chargee of petty larceny on Dec. 28, died at the Mount Eden gaol last night. He was about fifty-four years of age, an Englishman by birth, aud was a wool broker. He arrived sis months ago properly accredited, but took to drink end became destitute. So far as is known the deceased has no relations in New Zealand, and, the police have no knowledge of hi 3 Australian connections.
Yesterday 'afternoon a woman named Annie Cotter was admitted to the hospital suffering from a broken arm sustained through a fall. _____
