SOUTHLAND SHOW.

[from ona own cobkeepondbnt.] INVERCARGILL, Dec. 12. Tho entries for tho Southland Agricultural and Pastoral Association's Show, which opened to-day, numbered one hundred and eleven in excess of those of last year, and although tha weather waa wet this afternoon, preventing a large attendance to witness the judging of tha sheep classes, there is promise of flue weather for the people’s day, and in such case the gathering should be a pronounced success, especially if the olaoaes not yet exhibited compare at all with those which have already been given awards. Messrs Morris and Sutton carried off all tha honours with their Lincolns, some of the prize sheep being the same aa shown at Christchurch. The competition in the Romney Marsh classes was limited, and the exhibits of tho Hon M. Holmes were placed first in each ei the divisions. As usual at the Southland Shows, Messrs M’Kerchcr Bros, met wjith little opposition for Leicesters, and thair ahosip were worthy of the expectation of the breeders. There was a capital show of fat sheep, Mr J. C. Ellis, of Merivale, gaining the principal awards. Merinos were conspicuous by their absence, and the only blaok-faoed variety were tha Shropshire Downs of Messrs John Reid and Sons.
