ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

[Fas Faass Association.} GISBOENE, Deo. 12. A shocking accident yesterday befol a Juan named Henry Burst, chief lighterman ' on the cutter Iris, which was tendering ' wool at the ship Estrella. The last sling was being taken on board the Estrella ■ when the bale, as it descended, struck Burst on the side, knocking him overdoaid. As ho fell the bale swung and jammed his feet against the rail, the man billing head downwards. The ship gave a lurch towards the lighter, crushing Burst fearfully about the head. He was hauled aboard, and conveyed to tho hospital, where he lies in an unconscious and critical state. NAPIER, Deo. 12. J?he barque Soukar, from London, reports that on Sept. 28 a seaman named J. Gay was knocked overboard by the cross- ’ -lack sheet. A. life-buoy was thrown, but the man, being stunned, was unable to help himself. Pilot Day, who was oh the look-out, saw that the bather was rapidly being carried to the bar, and with the help of Mr C. E. Morton, who was bathing from the jetty, pub off the boat without delay and managed to rescue him from bin perilous position.
