A gentleman took pity on her and took her home, but she wandered away and subsequently was Sound begging food. She was given into custody, and the police have charge of her pending enquiries as to her parents, who, she says, reside in Christchurch. •; The, girl Maud Hartnsll, arrested at Gisborne, is alleged to have absconded from the Parnell Industrial School on Nov. 27. Information way given to the police, with the result that the girl was found and taken back to the school on Thursday evening hist. She was missing again next morning, and it is evident that she boarded the steamer Talune, as that vessel left for Gisborne the same day. The girl is only fourteen aad a half years of age. [The surname of the girl was telegraphed as Hargell, but it is thought probable that she is identical with ,a girl named Maud Hartnell, who was at one time an inmate of St Mary’s Home here.]
