It is gratifying to learn that Captain Harman has at last succeeded in making arrangements which will ensure the South Island head quarters of the Hew Zealand Eifie Association being established in Christchurch. This is of more importance than many of the citizens appear to think. The meetings of the Association will be held here in alternate years, and will no doubt, attract a large number of visitors to the town. This will, of course, be an advantage in itself; one which our tradesmen will be ready to appreciate ; but in addition there will ha the very great advantage of offering special encouragement to oar local Volunteers. The thanks of the community are due to Captain Harman, who has been chiefly instrumental in keeping the matter before a somewhat apathetic public, and it is to be hoped that this gentleman’s efforts will be warmly seconded at the meeting to be held at the City Council Chambers this afternoon. Now that Christchurch has undertaken to find a resting place for the Association, it should strain every nerve to discharge its part of the contract thoroughly well.
