OBDINABT MEETING. The usual monthly meeting of the Christchurch District Drainage Board wad held yesterday afternoon; present—-Messra John Deans (in the choir), H.Bennington, A. M’Alpine, 0. Palairet, C. J. Mountfort, S. Smart, H. P. Hill, H. Crooks and GV ■■ M’lntyre. ' SECRETARY AND TREASURER’S REPORT. The Secretary and Treasurer reported Amount of rates received since last meeting, £2898 13a lOd; received from other . sources, £147; expenditure since last meeting, rate account £550 4s j amount of 1891 rates outstanding £96 6s, 1892 £472 ISs 7d, 1893 £10,430 4s 3d; amount of 1.898 rates collected to date, £8677 17a 2d; amount of debit balance, £llß4 18s lid. Received. The Linwood Borough Council wrote applying to have the culvert In Ashbourne street, near Longhnan's corner, lengthened on the north side. The work was authorised. ; Mr B. D. Thomas wrote on behalf of the Public Trustee to the effect that he could not sea his way to give the guarantee asked for by the Board with reference to the covering in of the creek on Mrs Lucas’ estate. It was decided to reply that the Board could not see its way to cover in ' more than one hundred feet. A communication was received from the Christchurch Plumbers’ Union, asking the Board to allow the same privileges to unlicensed members of the Union as were conceded to the workmen at the Asylum, Hospital and Railway Departments in the matter of minor repairs to apparatus connected with the drainage system. This and several other matters wore left over for the new Board to deal with. Captain Fisher waited on the Board, applying to have the drainage rates on his property reduced. It was decided that : the Board had no power to make any reduction, as the rates were calculated on the Government valuation for Land tux purposes. WOEKB COMMITTEE. The Works Committee reported that lb had considered the application of the Sydenham Borough Council to be allowed to .discharge nightaoil into the Board's sewers, and was prepared to recommend that the concession asked for should be granted, sub j set to certain conditions of detail. The report was approved of. MISCELLANEOUS,., ; Accounts amounting t0'.£550 4a were passed for payment.' Mr HiU and the Engineer were asked to attend a meeting of ratepayers of the Avon district, to be hold,at Papanui on Thursday, with reference, to the reduction o? drainage rates. Some discussion took place with reference to the late action between the Board and the City Council, and' it was suggested that the Chairman should make a public statement with regard to the Board's position. The Chairman said as that was the last meeting of the'Board, he should like to move a vote b! thanks to the Engineer and Secretary and Treasurer. Tho motion was cafr|ed. */'■.
