ST JOHN AMBULANCE ASSOCIATION .

' ■ The~usual - meeting- of tha ' Aasooiation took place yesterday afternoon in the City Council Library. Present —Mr C, Louissoa (Chairman), Mesdamea Julius, Peacock, Hacon, Kinsey, Milaom and Caro, Miss Pheney, the Very Eev the Dean, Messrs P. Banks, S. Manning and S. D. Barker (Hon Secretary). Apologies for absence -kero received from Mesdames Izard, Webb, Louisaon, Manning aud Gibbs, Captain Qarsia, Messrs Webb and Jekyll. , The Secretary reported, in regard _to invalid transport, three cases in which persons had been removed to or from the Hospital. At Napier branch forty-six pupils had passed in first aid; certificates bad been sent to them and nursing books for a class just starting. The litter for Napier had just arrived in the Aorangi. it Camara branch Mr E. P. Lee had been Appointed Secretary in succession to Mias Soth-Smith. He had reported a case of first aid rendered to a jockey who had ■been injured on the racecourse there. . At ’Blenheim branch two members had passed •the medallion examination. At Greymouth branch eleven women had passed in nursing. At Timaru branch the nursing class was about to be examined. Colonel Dalton, a member of the London Executive Committee, who had passed through Christchurch lately, had informed him that a nursing ■ course for men was about to be added to . the syllabus of the Association. Arm badges for men ware now to be obtained on application to the Secretary. Dr Hacon bad declined to accept payment as an examiner after tbo present year, and bad presented a guinea to the Ambulance Carriage Fund, which he had set on foot as first contributor some years ago. On the motion oi the Chairman and Mr Manning, it was unanimously resolved—f* That Dr Hocon be appointed a VicePresident of this centra in recognition of {his having originated the ambulance movement in Christchurch, and worked for it throughout.” ’ With regard to tho Carriage Fund, it was repotted that the endeavours of the Committee had bean so far successful that only £lO was required to enable the ambulance carriage to be obtained. The Secretary was directed to ask the Governor and the Countess of Glasgow •to fix an evening this month and present 'the year’s certificates. The credit balance at the bank was shown to bo .£33 8s lOd, and accounts amounting to £26 7s 2d were passed for payment.
