LINWOOD. . ' J An ordinary monthly mooting of thq Linwood Borough Council was held Idas overling; present—-The Mayor (Mr J. C. Atkinson) and Councillors Brunt, Pente-v coat. Marshall, Horsley, Board. Wilson, 1 ; Duncan, Marriott and Taylor. The Mayor, of Woolaton waited on the Council In reference to the adjustment of accounts between the Linwood and Woolstou Borough Councils ,aad the Heathoote Koad Board. After a discussion it was decided to ask the Colonial Secretary to appoint an arbitrator. The Secretary of the Charitable Aid Board wrote, requesting the Council to pay its contributions by monthly instalments. The letter was referred to the Finance Committee. In answer. to a request from the Labour Day Demonstration Committee, the Council decided to give its patronage: to the Labour Day sports at the Biocarton: racecourse on Dec. 18. The Secretary of the North Canterbury Board of Education' wrote,stating that the proposed alteration; of the name of the Phillipatown school to the Linwood school had been considered, but as there had been an application to make Phillipstown a separate oohool district tho matter had been deferred. The Works Committee and Oounoillora, Duncan and Wilson were appointed to' consider the question of procuring a loan for the Borough, and to report to next meeting. The Finance Committee recom- ' mended that the Council should grant £l3 towards the fund for the erection of the Nurses* Homo. The receipts since last meeting had amounted to £5lB 15s Id, and the credit balance at the Bank wha 6b 9d. The Committee recommended payment of accounts amounting to £lB6 18s ■ Bd. The report was adopted. The Works ‘Committee recommended that tho names of Aldwin’s tod Ensor’s roads should bo altered to Aldwin’a and Bnsot’a streets. In regard to tho maintenance of the two atreets, the Committee recommended that the Woolstou and Linwood Councils should maintain the footpath and channel on' their respective sides of the boundary, the; Linwood Council to maintain the roadway, and charge half the cost to the Woolaton.l Council, a Alter disposing of some minor; matters, the meeting closed. ;>

WOOLSTON. An ordinary meeting o£ the Woolaton' Borough Council was held on Thursday evening; present— I The Mayor and Councillors Hopkins, Douglass, Wood, Milne,* Gimblett, Glover, Anderson and Parish. The Council congratulated Mr J. Richardson on hia re-election aa Mayor. Hia Worship returned thanks. The Mayor stated that the matter of securing representation on the Lyttelton Harbour Board and tile: Hospital and Charitable Aid Boards would hava to stand over for a time. A letterf wan received 1 from Mr J. _ M. Maxwell, asking permission to establish a soap and candle manufactory in the Borougni near the estuary. Permission was granted on the understanding that no nuisance would bo caused, and that tho factory should ba under the supervision of the local Board of Health. Tho Works GomV mittea’e report was read and approved, and it was decided to light the lamps in diatrioefor a short time longer, the Works; Committee to make fresh arrangements' with the Gas Company and report at the nest meeting. The matter of putting, pipes across the Stiver road, opposite Mr| Welsh’s property was left to the Works, Committee. The Finance Committee’s report was considered, and it was decided to, refer the adjustment of the accounts between the Council and the Heathoote Eoad Board to the Govern! ment for settlement. Accounts amounting 'to JBI2I were ptwaed for payment.; Six tenders were received for the forma- 1 tioa of Nomanby road, and that of Mr John Oleary was accepted, tho work to*, be completed by Jan. 1. Tho handing over tha memorial lamp the Council’s office, said that he trusted* that it would bo of service to the bur-1 ceases, and that the words written thereon would be fulfilled. Tho Councillors, in acknowledging tho gift of tho Mayor, resolved that the thanks of tho Council should be entered on tha minutes. After transacting business of a routine character the meeting terminated.
