The late Mr Edwin Butler, of Springfield Brewery, Wolverhampton, who died while on a visit to America for the benefit of hia health, baa bequeathed AiIO.OCO for the benefit of the inhabitants of the borough; JBSOOO are to be devoted to providing a branch public reading room, and the interest on the remainder is to provide music for the public park. The old French Flemish town of Dankirk is about to ce'ebraro by the erection of a monument of Victory the hundredth anniversary cf its siege by the Buko of York. The town was besieged from August 19, to Sept. 10 by the Duke at the Lead of 4000 men. The monument consists of a column about 35£b high, surmounted by a statue of Victory resting upon a pedestal 14fb high. The ctotua, which is of bronze, ia about 12ft in height. Upon a bas-relict the people of tiiu town are represented as hurrying to the construction of the national bastion. There will be public rejoicings on the occasion of the inauguration.
