RIFLE SHOOTING.
ASSOCIATED VOLUNTEER CORPS. The E Battery and College Rifles met for the first time this season cn Saturday last. The ranges were 200, 300 and 500yds, seven shots at each. A strong southerly gale blew across the range, and made shooting very unpleasant during the afternoon. The match resulted in a win for the Battery by eighty-three points. The following ere the scores : E Battery—Gunner Fox 25, 25.23—73 ; Captain Jackson 29, 25, 19—73; Quartermaster Sergeant Dougall 20, 23,22—71; Bombardier Cropp 25, 23,17—65; Gunner Lester 28, 23, 14—65; Sergeant-Major Sinclair 28, 14, 21—63; Sergeant Were 23, 21,12—56; Bombardier Searle 25, 10, 20—55; Gunner Maazies 23, 15, 17—55; Sergeant Henwood 22, 20, 11—53; total 629.
College Rifles—Colour-Sergeant Smith 28, 24, 24—76; Corporal Colcloogh 22, 19, 20—61; Lance-Corporal Gibson 21, 21, 18—60; Private Teana 29, 17, 14—60; Private W00dh0u5e29,17,13—59; Private Collins 22, 9, 25—56; Lance-Corporal Million 28, 20, 6—54; Private Haitian d 25, 14, 13—52; Private Hamilton 25, 18, 7—50; Private Evans 15, 3, 0 —18; total 546. LYTTELTON RIFLE CLUB, The second competition for the championship of this Club was fired on Saturday afternoon. The ranges fired at were 200, 500 and 600 yards. Tho weather was all against good shooting, there being a strong gale of wind blowing from the south-west, which made the shooting most inconsistent. The following were the results:— First class—Messrs G. A. Lewin, 31, 25, 26-82; C. W. Wfigst&ff, 29, 31. 22—82; R. Treleaven, 30,20, 28—78; H. Field, 29. 10,29 —68; A. Manning, 24, 15, 18 —57. Messrs Lewin and Wagstaff took prizes presented by Messrs Moir and Co. Second class—Meters T. Ball, 25, 28, 18 —7l; J. A. Suiter (5), 24, 22, 18-89; H. Manson, 25, 18, 22—65; E. Sowden (10), 25, 24, 6—65 ; J. Sowden, sea, (10), 20, 5, 17—53. Points for the championship were gained as follow First class : Lewin 5, Wagstaff 4, Treleaven 3, H. Field 2, A. Manning 1. Second class: Bell 5, H. Manson 4, Suiter 3, E. Sowden 2, J. Sowden, sen., 1.
