SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

An ordinary meeting of the Cast School Committee was held on Monday evening; present—Ths Rev M’Kenzle Gibson (chairman), Messrs Lee, Forbes, Yfalker end Charles. The report of the Inspector on the Cast school was received. In regard thereto, it was unanimously agreed that the Committee should congratulate the teaching staff on the excellent nature of the report, and accord to them hearty thanks for the zeal displayed in promoting tfce interests of the scholars. - A lengthy discussion took place relative to providing prizes for the children, but the matter was allowed to stand over till next meeting. The usual monthly meeting of the East Christchurch School Committee was held at the main school on Thursday; present —Messrs BE. Sandsfceiu (Chairmen), F. J. Board, I. H. Pentecost, J. Tippett Smith, H. Allison, J. R. Brunt, H. S. Brown and M. Murphy. An apology waa received for the absence of Mr J. S. Williams; A circular was received from the Education Beard having reference to closing the schools on the day of the general election. The action of the Chairman in closing the schools was approved. A letter was received from the Education Board stating that it had no funds for certain repairs required at the main school, and that the Committee would have to pay the cost of such repairs out of the incidental fund. A letter was also received from the Board with reference to the re-erection of the fence between the main school ground and Mr Sheppard’s property. A letter was received from the Education Department, Wellington, in reply to a communication from the Committee, with reference to telephonic communication with ' tho main school, also a letter from the Minister of Education having reference to the same subject. The usual monthly report was received from the head master; it stated that the average attendance had been rather low during the earlier part of the month, in consequence of tho bad weather, but improved towards the end of the month. After passing accounts the meeting adjourned until Thursday, Dec. 14, to receive report from the Entertainment Committee, as to the concert promoted for 'the purpose of obtaining the necessary funds for providing prizes for the children attending tho schools, and also to decide about the Christmas holidays. -
